The Set Theory
Today we are going to discuss about sets.
Do you know what a set is?
In our daily life we often sort out various things or objects in to groups or collections:
· Team of players
· A bunch of keys
Similarly in mathematics we have:
· A collection of natural numbers
· A collection of geometrical figures
Ok, all of us are interested in cricket, right? there are 11 players in a cricket match.
That is a collection of people, in mathematical language we say they are well defined collection of objects, such a well defined collection of objects is called a set.
Click on the link below to download the chapter. Don’t forget to practice the exercises given at the end of the chapter
http://rapidshare.com/files/258439570/Set_theory.doc.html
In the chapter I have covered the following aspects of Sets:
1. Definition
2. Representation of sets
3. Types of sets:
a) Finite set
b) Infinite set
c) Universal set & Sub-Set
d) Empty set
e) Singleton set
4. Power set
5. Venn diagram
6. Basic operations:
a) Unions
b) Intersections
c) Complements
7. Recapitulations
Kindly mail me for any doubts or suggestions at:

My Method of Instruction
Well before i begin i would like to just key in a few words about my method of instruction on each topic. In this blog what you will read or go through is just an introduction to the topic .........Hmm like the first class of a new topic....remember how your teacher takes the first class of a new topic or subject...we love that class because all we have to do is sit and listen and no taking notes or writing down anything cuz the first class is always a general discussion........well then you may ask what about the actual topic..? thats the easy part........i have meticulosly prepared each topic in a simple and easy to understand format.....i have uploaded these topics in file sharing websites all you have to do is to click on the links that i provide in this blog and download the chapters and save it in your system.......that ways you'll always have the file with you for future reference...at the end of each chapter i have also prepeared a set of excercises which you can do...apart from that if you need any other help or didn't understsnd any particular concept please feel free to email me and i'll be happy to respond.....

Inro…..
Mathematics is mainly a matter of puzzles ,paradox and problem solving- a sort of healthy mental exercise…..well I know you must be thinking yeah it’s a puzzle of course I cant understand a thing of it….paradox cuz.. I have no clue and problem solivng …yeha who can I find to solve the problem and well I don’t know about healthy exercise but it sure can get you mental.
Mathematics is the queen of all sciences and arithmetic is the queen of all mathematics…….yeah I’d sure like to see that queen …may look something like the one above…..
Mathematics is the gateway to all sciences and maybe the gateway to hell if you don’t understand it…………..properly that is……..
So first of all lets make friends with this stranger…Mathematics who actually is not a stranger at all.
Mathematics, actually has so many applications in our day to day life situations that we may not even be thinking about it…, say when you argue with a friend or with your parents we’re actually subconsciously using our acquired mathematical skill…….don’t believe it here’s how…
Well.. argument is done using a rule called as the “RULE OF IMPLICATION”. This rule states that:
1) say…a statement lets call it ‘P’ implies the statement ‘Q’
2) if the statement ‘P’ is true then the statement ‘Q’ will also be true
Hmm…beginning to sound interesting…?there are thousand such examples but I’m not going into those details as it is outside the scope of this topic.
Mathematics should be visualised as a vehicle to train yourself to think, reason and analyse
So lets kikstart this programme and go on a discovery lane …….and see how much you can benefit by it……

THE MATH CLASSROOM BLOG

Hi guys and gals, I’m Rashmi. By profession you can say that I am a teacher or lecturer. I hold an M.Sc degree in Mathematics and also a Bachelors degree in Education.
Well I’ve been working as a lecturer in Mathematics for sometime in a reputed higher secondary school in Mumbai and you know what….? Well….. I just gave it up one fine day…..Why?......well because I felt that I wasn’t doing enough for the students……I felt that in today’s educational rat race there are several students…prospective students who many not be getting their due share of the pie.
Schools and classrooms have become but arenas or platforms for children to deliver in exams and not temples where they receive their values and education. Children are judged by the marks that they bring home and no one realises their real potentials and inclinations.
An average school going child today is not only burdened by the load amount of tuitions and extra classes but also has to stay up to the heavy expectations of their parents and peers.
As a teacher who was once a student myself I realise the torment & trauma children are put through in life’s Reality show……
By now you must be thinking ……….. oh!…yeah sure!…right! all these things are good to read in an essay on the state of education in India today….but what can be done…..
Well I’ve been thinking of how I could do my bit in this state of affairs…well heres what I’ve come up with……
How about I provide a platform for all students where the subject comes to them instead of you going to the subject…..confused……? To simply put it... How does free daily online maths tuition sound to you….ok…ok.. i can hear….what? Free? Wait a minute..?That cant be true…..etc..etc…
I introduce to you “THE MATH CLASSROOM BLOG” yes you guessed it…it’s a free online math blog where I deal with your classroom topics in math on a daily basis. Well first I would like to draw your interests to the subject and if I get your attention I’m sure that you would follow on with the coming chapters…more over…I would like to take it a step further…if you have any doubts, requests and even suggestions on how I could make the blog better….please mail me at yourmathsteacher@gmail.com and I would be more than happy to reply…..
SO…what do you say shall we get cracking………?
